I found York Notes literature guides extremely helpful last year during my GCSEs. They are available at GCSE and Advanced levels for a wide range of texts (including "Of Mice and Men", "Macbeth", "The Color Purple" and many more). I'm using them again this year in the change in literature module of my AS level in English Language & Literature.
They can be tedious (especially at GCSE level) and can state the obvious, but they are priceless when you need a bit of help figuring out a novel or play. They're easy to read, give tips hints and widen your knowledge, including suggestions of films to watch and websites to visit.
I'd reccomend them to anyone, even those who usually find literature easy, as they're enjoyable as they are together with the texts.
