Post subject: update on achilles tendon rupture one year on Reply with quote

I ruptured my achilles exactly 1 year ago and only now feel confident to write how I am getting on in case I jinxed myself. I had a partial rupture near the calf muscle so was treated conservatively in plaster cast for 10 weeks. I was completely non weight bearing for that time. The progress after that was slow and if it hadn't been for an Army Physio giving me exercises to do I think I may have rushed ahead and done more damage. As it is I can now run, ok not far but I can run. I do not walk with a limp which was one of the things that worried me. I have slight thickness at the back of my ankle but nobody notices. For the ladies out there yes you will eventually wear heels again ( maybe not KILLER heels) but heels all the same. I have been ice skating again and my leg no longer swells up all the time. The fear of doing it again is still there and any twinge scares me to death but I am now at a place I thought I would never be. It has been one of the most demorolizing years of my life but you do recover from it. My advice is take it slow. This site was my saviour in those dark days and I also gained a friend out of it. Good luck to anyone who has the misfortune of joining this club.
