A Fishing Kingfisher<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On both Saturday and Sunday I spent a bit of time watching a female Kingfisher. I was quite surprised how successful it was at catching fish and also how often it did it. Admittedly the fish were small but then so is the Kingfisher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am looking forward to getting down there when the Sun is a bit higher in the sky and the light is better. Considering how much practice I have had and how much light there was I am pleased with the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The photo of the reed reflection in the water shows a splash at the top left where the Kingfisher is diving in. The next ones show the Kingfisher with fish. It whacked the fish on the branch a few times before swallowing it head first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Turkey Tail fungus is all over a tree stump near the dam. A little further up the slope, near the gate to Trench Meadow SSSI, is a fallen Silver Birch with several large Birch Polypore fungi that have been there a while now. I normally think of a fungus only lasting a few days but they are still looking very firm and healthy.
