A visit to Rodley Nature Reserve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rodleynaturereserve.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rodley Nature Reserve<\/a> is a great place to visit and here are some photos from one of my visits. This visit was on 6 April 2015 with a bit of sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to get some closer shots of Great Created Grebes but the only times I have seen them they have been in the middle of decent sized lakes. This time they were on the far side of the island in what is called the Lagoon.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"A Pair of Great Crested Grebe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23901969950\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1538\/23901969950_f5f6315401_z.jpg\" alt=\"A Pair of Great Crested Grebe\" width=\"640\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On a sunny day even the grass can be beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Grass\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/24171472186\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1645\/24171472186_8a98727bb9_z.jpg\" alt=\"Grass\" width=\"640\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Black Swans and Mute Swans can be seen there. This Black Swan seemed to be looking at the Mute a bit quizzically.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Swans\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23569378384\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1695\/23569378384_fd60749f52_z.jpg\" alt=\"Swans\" width=\"640\" height=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I often see Oystercatchers on Baildon Moor and for several years a pair have been nesting at the Tax Office by the river Aire in Shipley. This one was splashing about in the Lagoon.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Oyster Catcher\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/24197563195\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1552\/24197563195_a3bfae09ff_z.jpg\" alt=\"Oyster Catcher\" width=\"640\" height=\"451\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Little Grebe can be seen on the river Aire at Saltaire, near the Boathouse pub. But this is the clearest shot I have ever got of one.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Little Grebe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/24171480716\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1447\/24171480716_7b67f48115_z.jpg\" alt=\"Little Grebe\" width=\"640\" height=\"509\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reflected Reeds<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bent Stalks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23570770973\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1664\/23570770973_183a5f20d7_z.jpg\" alt=\"Bent Stalks\" width=\"560\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This male Toad on top of a mate was not going to give up his place easily. He\u00a0kept the other away with well placed kicks.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Toads\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23569399354\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1569\/23569399354_75de7f5341_z.jpg\" alt=\"Toads\" width=\"640\" height=\"488\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A nice clear shot of a Dunnock<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Dunnock\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23829774469\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1720\/23829774469_fb14ffe135_z.jpg\" alt=\"Dunnock\" width=\"640\" height=\"475\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This Cormorant was not happy with the Great Crested Grebe being close. It soon chased it back into the middle of the Lagoon.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Cormorant and Great Crested Grebe\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/24089544372\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1506\/24089544372_6ce7639e0a_z.jpg\" alt=\"Cormorant and Great Crested Grebe\" width=\"640\" height=\"474\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Quite a few Grey Heron can be seen at the nature reserve. Their strangely jointed neck lets their head tuck in. It also lets that beak shoot out to catch its prey.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Grey Heron\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23901990770\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1509\/23901990770_abd13acbd3_z.jpg\" alt=\"Grey Heron\" width=\"640\" height=\"504\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The small grassy banks near the visitor centre are a good place to see butterflies.
