I still have several sets of photos that I am thinking of sharing. They are from days out for Ingress. Here are 2 of them. One to Marple and another a First Saturday in Stockport. Others will follow – going back further in time – Nottingham and Norwich are coming hopefully.<\/p>\n

A trip to Marple Bridge and Marple<\/h1>\n

Apparently Agatha Christie was delayed at Marple station one time and somehow that led to the naming of Miss Marple in her books.<\/p>\n

My trip to Marple Bridge and Marple was a bit on the cold side but it is a very pretty place to visit. (Apart from the fact that much of it was Ingress level 8 green.)<\/p>\n

This mill building is on Town Street, Marple Bridge.<\/p>\n

Following the Ingress portals took me round parts of the Peak Forest Canal that has an impressive set of locks.<\/p>\n

Parts of the canal are quite wide. Looking at the map shows that there are quite a few “open” areas but in many places it is narrow.<\/p>\n

This section shows that the canal is for narrow<\/em> boats. The Leeds Liverpool canal that I am more familiar with is wider and the locks bigger, if not as high.<\/p>\n

The stretch of 16 locks raise the water significantly along the canal near Marple and Marple Bridge. This website <\/a>has details of the canal and locks along that section.<\/p>\n

This is Juction Side Bridge 1 where the Macclesfield Canal splits off from the Peak Forest Canal.<\/p>\n

And this is taken from the Church Lane bridge over the Macclesfield canal looking back towards the Peak Forest Canal.<\/p>\n

A First Saturday in Stockport<\/h1>\n

Back on 3 December 2016 I went to an Ingress First Saturday in Stockport and took my camera with me.<\/p>\n

The Market Hall is quite impressive with all the timber and glass.<\/p>\n

\"PM7_7282\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Underbank Hall, a half-timbered building dating back to the 15th century. Part of the Underbanks Conservation Area. As of 2016 this was being used by NatWest.<\/p>\n

I wonder which was built first? The bridge or the mill? This photo was taken from the King St West bridge and that is the River Mersey. It is noticeable that much of Stockport, in fact much of Greater Manchester, is built of red brick.<\/p>\n

We met at The Calvert’s Court as the starting and finishing point. This is after the finishing time when we were returning to allow the results to be analysed.<\/p>\n

On the way back to the car I passed this entrance to the Merseyway Shopping Centre. The shops all along there are actually built over the River Mersy. I don’t know why but the car park in Stockport quite surprised me. It seemed to be acres of space to drive about on above all the shops.<\/p>\n
