I then walked through the woods to Baildon Bank coming out onto Green Road opposite Baildon Community Link.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Grey Heron, Saltaire\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/33575474963\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4184\/33575474963_59ccfe14f3_z.jpg\" alt=\"Grey Heron, Saltaire\" width=\"640\" height=\"483\" \/><\/a>There is often a Grey Heron on the weir at Saltaire, and today with all the crowds was no exception.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mallard, Saltaire\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34385479235\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2845\/34385479235_c18a337fac_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mallard, Saltaire\" width=\"640\" height=\"406\" \/><\/a>I wonder if the green stuff on the weir tastes better when the water is rushing over it or do the ducks do this just for fun?<\/p>\n<p id=\"bluebells\">Bluebells. My take on a common subject&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bluebells\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34226945852\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4181\/34226945852_dabab0863d_z.jpg\" alt=\"Bluebells\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>Above is my photo of this year&#8217;s Bluebells. Taken in Midgeley Woods<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bluebells\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34000769670\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2808\/34000769670_6a50743b32_z.jpg\" alt=\"Bluebells\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I needed to do something different because my attempts at a carpet of Bluebells, as above, are not very good. It would probably show the carpet better if I did something between the two types of photo. I might try next year.<br \/>\n<a title=\"Ashy Mining Bee\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34254902531\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4155\/34254902531_231f8b3733_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ashy Mining Bee\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you come out of Midgeley Wood towards Baildon Bank you can see lots of small holes along the edges of the footpaths. Many of them have dusting of different coloured earth\/sand around them.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Ashy Mining bee\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34391117715\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4168\/34391117715_b8f33f4061_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ashy Mining bee\" width=\"640\" height=\"433\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And if you look closely you will see the antenna of bees. In this case an Ashy Mining Bee.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Ashy Mining Bee\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34226824112\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2859\/34226824112_0882d1f53e_z.jpg\" alt=\"Ashy Mining Bee\" width=\"640\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a>You might see them around the edges of the paths, There are also other kinds of mining bee that you might see. They are solitary bees that make holes with several cells\/chambers for their eggs. Shipley Glen is a good place for them and without people walking about to make the hard paths some of them would struggle.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bullfinch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34254842971\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4170\/34254842971_2438785fdb_z.jpg\" alt=\"Bullfinch\" width=\"640\" height=\"447\" \/><\/a>After passing the houses at Baildon Green I spotted this rather plump and rosy\u00a0male Bullfinch\u00a0eating the tiny leave buds on the bushes.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Male Great Spotted Woodpecker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34226807912\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4173\/34226807912_79bb4486cf_z.jpg\" alt=\"Male Great Spotted Woodpecker\" width=\"640\" height=\"523\" \/><\/a>But then had the good fortune to hear, and then see, this male Great Spotted Woodpecker.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Male Great Spotted Woodpecker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/34226810172\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4175\/34226810172_316a153ba2_z.jpg\" alt=\"Male Great Spotted Woodpecker\" width=\"640\" height=\"494\" \/><\/a>He spent a bit of time on this branch, looking and listening.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Male Great Spotted Woodpecker\" couple of times it looked as though he had decided on where the food was and how best to get it.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Male Great Spotted Woodpecker\"
