{"id":1818,"date":"2017-10-02T20:52:28","date_gmt":"2017-10-02T20:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marfell.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=1818"},"modified":"2024-11-24T14:10:35","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T14:10:35","slug":"more-kingfisher-at-adel-dam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marfell.me.uk\/wordpress\/more-kingfisher-at-adel-dam\/","title":{"rendered":"More Kingfisher at Adel Dam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 24th September I paid another visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ywt.org.uk\/reserves\/adel-dam-nature-reserve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adel Dam Nature Reserve.<\/a> At the first hide the feeders had just been topped up and they were quite busy with birds.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Blue Tit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/36789720503\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4460\/36789720503_744c0b5a1b_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blue Tit\" width=\"800\" height=\"524\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Peanuts are too big for the smaller birds to eat in one go so what happens is that they fly in, pick up a peanut and then fly off into the trees to then eat the nut peck by peck. This Blue Tit did just that and flew into the bushes by the side of the hide.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"PM7_6391\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/37412133966\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4445\/37412133966_a038fffb6d_c.jpg\" alt=\"PM7_6391\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the 2nd hide Nuthatch were doing a similar thing but this one is still on the feeder.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Robin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23607735328\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4497\/23607735328_fc719d4570_c.jpg\" alt=\"Robin\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Robins were also using the feeders.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bank Vole\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/37412136476\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4497\/37412136476_b8f90e1f60_c.jpg\" alt=\"Bank Vole\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But one of the stars of the visit was this Bank Vole, and my, were they quick? Usually they were gone before I could press the shutter but some times they would pause before scurrying off again.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Kingfisher\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/37412140366\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4469\/37412140366_8f5f2c6524_c.jpg\" alt=\"Kingfisher\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>THE star of the visit was this Kingfisher. It perched on this branch for a while.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Kingfisher\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23607734178\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4502\/23607734178_5a3688d78d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Kingfisher\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It spread its colourfull wings a couple of times<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Kingfisher\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23607740598\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4469\/23607740598_8e0721ceb3_c.jpg\" alt=\"Kingfisher\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It also did some diving, but often came up with little bits of weed instead of fish.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Kingfisher\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/23607740918\/in\/album-72157686112423734\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.staticflickr.com\/4450\/23607740918_e98ff68bd0_c.jpg\" alt=\"Kingfisher\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The nature reserve is well worth a visit. On this occasion there were Blue tit, Coal tit, Great tit, Chaffinch, Chiffchaff, Nuthatch, Robin, Black headed gull, Buzzard, Red Kite, Teal, Mallard, Moorhen and Grey Wagtail.<\/p>\n<p>As usual you can click on any of the images to see them on Flickr.
