It had a good turnout, and was fun. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Early on in the Celebration Day\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998171764\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1750\/41998171764_b7e0a98665_c.jpg\" alt=\"Early on in the Celebration Day\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This photo, where a couple of the games were setup, was taken early on before the hordes arrived. The Reserve Warden, Steve, is on the left.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Getting busier\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998150634\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1752\/41998150634_a6b98d54d6_c.jpg\" alt=\"Getting busier\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the games there were also stalls for numerous organisations- Baildon in Bloom, Friends of Denso Marston Nature Reserve, RSPB. The long grass on the right of the photo is where Steve mows the grass in a particular shape. You can see the shape of a Dragonfly in the grass cutting on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/maps\/place\/53%C2%B050'48.3%22N+1%C2%B044'52.8%22W\/@53.846748,-1.7485372,171m\/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d53.8467483!4d-1.7479902\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google satellite view<\/a>.\u00a0 Behind me when I took this photo was a demonstration of bird ringing.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Music and Pond Dipping\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/28842467148\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1743\/28842467148_4a7df0936d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Music and Pond Dipping\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over by the pond were Baildon Ukulele Group, Fiona from Bradford Rights of Way, Richard Perham from Bradford Countryside Service, Yorkshire Dragonfly Group and people helping identify the creatures from the pond dipping.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Dragonfly Larva\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/28842462548\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1754\/28842462548_78cfee9471_c.jpg\" alt=\"Dragonfly Larva\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the small trays for the people doing the pond dipping there was also a big drum\/tank for some of the specimens like this Dragonfly.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Newt\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998160894\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1756\/41998160894_dd12d80c5f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Newt\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And this Newt.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Pair of Large Red Demaselflies\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998161604\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1753\/41998161604_f772be0c0e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Pair of Large Red Demaselflies\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When the sun was out you could see it shining on lots of Azure Damselfies and a smaller number of Banded Demoiselles flitting about. Quite a few of the Azure Dameslflies were paired up as were these two Large Red Demselflies<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"1 adult Moorhen + 3 chicks from 2 broods\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/27847438647\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1753\/27847438647_1fde90e13f_c.jpg\" alt=\"1 adult Moorhen + 3 chicks from 2 broods\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few times Moorhen showed themselves on the pond seeming to ignore the people. Here&#8217;s a female Goosander with 3 juveniles. Later on I saw this family out of the river on rocks.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"7D2_3121\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998151984\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1732\/41998151984_087f34be2e_c.jpg\" alt=\"7D2_3121\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Also later on I saw a larger family, in this case seven juveniles. Two are not in this shot they are further over on rocks to the right. Note that most of them are on a large sheet of plastic.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Bike and pipe and sundry rubbish\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/28842461418\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1726\/28842461418_540022c9d8_c.jpg\" alt=\"Bike and pipe and sundry rubbish\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of rubbish in the river and on its banks including shopping trolleys, trailers, rope, cable, pipes and, as shown above, bikes.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Roe Deer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/28842460568\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1723\/28842460568_d7db8a96f9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Roe Deer\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even with all the rubbish Roe Deer can be seen, usually on the opposite bank<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Roe Deer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998157004\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1744\/41998157004_2165d13862_c.jpg\" alt=\"Roe Deer\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This male didn&#8217;t seem too worried by me taking its photo.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Roe Deer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998155644\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1750\/41998155644_bdccb19f70_c.jpg\" alt=\"Roe Deer\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It strolled along the river bank eating various plants as it was going.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Roe Deer + rubbish\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/28842457318\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1733\/28842457318_617b7f786f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Roe Deer + rubbish\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It then picked its way through sheets of plywood, sheet metal, drain pipes, washing machine drums and then climbed the bank and disappeared. In amongst the vegetation is where you might expect to see Roe Deer &#8211; not stepping through all the rubbish left around by us.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Pike\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/28842468438\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1758\/28842468438_4ecce336eb_c.jpg\" alt=\"Pike\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back at the pond I kept my eye on what looked very much like a submerged branch but I noticed that it was very slowly getting closer to some of the plants. Using my camera and focusing beyond the surface of the water showed that it was a Pike.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hedgehog\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/41998167644\/in\/album-72157697293997514\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1746\/41998167644_d36661b2d0_c.jpg\" alt=\"Hedgehog\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Heading back along the river to the entrance to the reserve I spotted this Hedgehog snuffling across the path to disappear in the hedges.<\/p>\n<p>As usual the photos are on Flickr so you can click on any of them to view them within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/albums\/72157697293997514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">album<\/a> that has several other photos from the day within it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Friends of Denso Marston Nature Reserve had their annual fun day celebration on Saturday 9 June 2018.
