Early Aug 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These are a few photos from our garden and a couple of walks through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dm-naturereserve.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Denso Marston Nature Reserve<\/a> and along the river.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mint Moth\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/30241152778\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1846\/30241152778_b41d81b59a_c.jpg\" alt=\"Mint Moth\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I am sure that <a href=\"https:\/\/butterfly-conservation.org\/moths\/mint-moth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mint Moths<\/a> have been around our garden for years but unless you stop and look you never see them.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mint Moth\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/42299679450\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1890\/42299679450_e37cf6c9e6_c.jpg\" alt=\"Mint Moth\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one has different colouring to the first one I posted. I think this might be because this one is the second brood of the year.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Brown Hawker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44060316652\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1859\/44060316652_af89f950c8_c.jpg\" alt=\"Brown Hawker\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A month or so back the ponds at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dm-naturereserve.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Denso Marston Nature Reserve<\/a> were swarming with damselflies. During these recent visits I only saw one or two but did spot a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.british-dragonflies.org.uk\/species\/brown-hawker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brown Hawker<\/a> flying about.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Brown Hawker\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/42299678510\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1811\/42299678510_002c96da0e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Brown Hawker\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These two photos show the Brown Hawker ovipositing (laying its eggs) on vegetation just under the water.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Shield Bug\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/29171402467\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1852\/29171402467_6aee1a5e3f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Shield Bug\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I spotted shield bugs on several plants.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Shield Bug\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44060315952\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1815\/44060315952_438681c454_c.jpg\" alt=\"Shield Bug\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I could imagine that if this Cow Parsley was still green these bugs would be quite difficult to spot.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Shield Bug\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/29171401777\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1815\/29171401777_abd77c77d3_c.jpg\" alt=\"Shield Bug\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This seed head has 4 shield bugs on it.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Ladybird\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/42299677720\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1875\/42299677720_8bc02e8484_c.jpg\" alt=\"Ladybird\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Several Ladybirds were around too.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Blue tit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/29171404367\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1877\/29171404367_0bca859b17_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blue tit\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After keeping quiet at the Spider Club feeding station for a few seconds birds started to come along. Kije this Blue Tit.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Blue tit\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/29171403457\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1887\/29171403457_794f0188e5_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blue tit\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one preferred to feed off the seeds on the ground.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Robin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/42299676960\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1820\/42299676960_95c68e1642_c.jpg\" alt=\"Robin\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whereas this juvenile Robin was happy to get food from the raised board.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Robin\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/30241153648\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1817\/30241153648_8c30cd9ce9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Robin\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As was this Robin that is a bit older.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Speckled Wood\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/29171400967\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1862\/29171400967_7b7c6a7187_c.jpg\" alt=\"Speckled Wood\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This Speckled Wood went onto the ground and kept flicking its wings, something I had not seen before. It was only when I looked at the image later that I realised that it was on what i assume are the remains of a Speckled Wood. The wing is very pale.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Speckled Wood\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44060318992\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1861\/44060318992_5c8bfcaca6_c.jpg\" alt=\"Speckled Wood\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were quite a few Speckled Wood butterflies around.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Comma\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/29171409787\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1831\/29171409787_47d6e83f6d_c.jpg\" alt=\"Comma\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also managed to spot this Comma butterfly.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Grey Heron\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44060317372\/in\/album-72157672439680488\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1862\/44060317372_c24be646bc_c.jpg\" alt=\"Grey Heron\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And here is an obligatory photo of a Grey Heron.
