{"id":2279,"date":"2018-09-26T18:09:32","date_gmt":"2018-09-26T18:09:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.marfell.me.uk\/wordpress\/?p=2279"},"modified":"2018-09-26T18:09:32","modified_gmt":"2018-09-26T18:09:32","slug":"red-admirals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.marfell.me.uk\/wordpress\/red-admirals\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Admirals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the trees and houses around our garden we only seem to get sunshine on part of our Buddleia at a time during this time of year but when we do it can suddenly get busy with butterflies &#8211; I guess it isn&#8217;t called Butterfly Bush for nothing.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Red Admiral\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44882754192\/in\/album-72157701763393245\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1925\/44882754192_8920808556_c.jpg\" alt=\"Red Admiral\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>During one sunny interval yesterday I managed to count 9 Red Admiral on the bush at one time. There were probably others that I didn&#8217;t spot.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Red Admiral\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/43119741110\/in\/album-72157701763393245\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1913\/43119741110_95151d6d8f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Red Admiral\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Red Admirals still have to share it with other flying insects like this Bee Hoverfly.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Red Admiral\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/43119743090\/in\/album-72157701763393245\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1927\/43119743090_449ef5d227_c.jpg\" alt=\"Red Admiral\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some of them looked very fresh with no creases on their wings. This one just has a few on its right wings.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Red Admiral\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44882753532\/in\/album-72157701763393245\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1939\/44882753532_efd7468c79_c.jpg\" alt=\"Red Admiral\" width=\"800\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This one has a rather ragged left wing but it was nowhere near the worst.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Red Admiral\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/pmarfell\/44883664372\/in\/album-72157701763393245\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.staticflickr.com\/1933\/44883664372_7fc5976a0e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Red Admiral\" width=\"800\" height=\"563\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The wings of butterflies are beautiful and to see them on flowers or flitting about in sunlight is great. But I get a bit uncomfortable when looking closely at their heads.
