I didn’t get anything new for Day 48 so really it should be a re-cap, but since this is my blog I can change the rules whenever I like. The subject for Day 48 is more photography based than anything to do with the garden, or new species, or day count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having had some success with the Blue Tits flying to and from the nest box I thought I would get some better ones. Early on I tried using a shutter speed of 1\/1000s. The downside of that is that I had to use a large aperture, and so very little depth was in focus, and a high “film” speed (ISO) which makes the image grainy\/noisy. The header image was taken using these settings too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I then decided to take some using a flash gun. My understanding of electronic flash was that the flash only lasted for 1\/2000s or less and so if the shutter was fully open at the time (flash sync speed) I should get what I was looking for. It was not until I brought me camera back in that I realised that they were worse than before. There is even more blur in the moving bird, though the other bits were less noisy. What is going on? A bit of evening browsing on t’internet gave me the answers. Perhaps this is going to be the subject for Day 49?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
