This Sunday (26 Feb) I took my camera along to Ben Rhydding Gravel Pits to have a wander around. It rained, fortunately not for long, but it kept clouding over and the sun struggled to shine through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the first things I spotted was a pair of Teal across the other side of the river. Because of the size and distance I didn’t expect the photo to be as clear as it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As is often the case the Treecreeper just kept moving. I was lucky to get a shot of it through the branches and twigs on the trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were several pairs of Bullfinches feeding on the rather dried up looking berries and also biting off new buds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robins were definitely making themselves heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Way over the other side of the river, possibly as far as Timble were clouds of smoke coming up from burning the heather. I find it rather surprising that it is frowned upon to have a wood burning stove to keep warm but it seems ok to burn acres of heather so landowners can host shooting parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During my wander I kept hearing the screech of raptors and occasionally got a glimpse of one. Towards the end of my visit I saw a Red Kit through the trees as it swept over the sewerage works on the other side of the A65, so I crossed over to its entrance. Of course I didn’t get one coming in as close as that but I reckon there were 5 or 6 Buzzard and 4 or 5 Red Kite flying over and behind the trees on the other side of the railway line and over towards Wheatley Lane.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
