<\/a><\/a><\/a>After watching a couple of Goosander and Crows on the rocks opposite the gate I went round to the pond where this Grey Heron was quietly waiting for something to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Though you can still see through most of the trees there are plenty of signs that new growth is on its way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After quietly wandering around the reserve watching Mallards mating, Moorhen pulling muddy shirts around to get at food, Great Spotted Woodpecker both feeding and drumming, Wrens signing like mad I met up with three people looking across the river. Without my binoculars I couldn’t see anything of interest but they told me there was a Water Rail. Looking across the river with my camera brightened things up so I was able to find it. Considering how dark it was, especially in amongst the rocks by the river, I am quite pleased with the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While watching the Water Rail, which was very difficult to see amongst the big rocks three Roe Deer ran back and forth a couple of times.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Four days ago Steve posted on the Denso Marston Nature Reserve facebook page that he had spotted a Water Rail at the reserve, so today I went down to see if it was still there.
