I have just been looking at how to write Android Apps. I have done nothing clever with my Nexus 10, all I have done is install a few common Apps. I got curious so had a look at a website about writing Android Apps. One of the things mentioned was testing/debugging using the developer mode of an Android device. I didn’t know about the Developer mode and by default it is not visible.
Turning developer mode on is easy, if a bit strange. In Settings > About Tablet tap on Build Number 7 times. This then tells you that you are a developer and adds Developer Options to your device’s menu.
In Developer Options there are a few interesting things, one of which is Transition Animation scale. Do you love watching your screen transitions? Do you like watching your selected screen smoothly appear? Or do you want to select one from your running Apps and for it just be on your screen ready to use? Have a play with the different settings for Transition Animation then. On mine I can go up to 10x and it then takes about 3 seconds for an App, selected from the list of recent Apps, to grow into full screen. Alternatively I can set it ‘off’ and ‘bang’ it is there ready to use.
Before you do any of this though be aware that once you have turned Developer mode on there is no easy way to remove the menu option. You can turn off the ability to change options by using the on/off button at the top right, but you can’t remove the Developer option menu item unless by you do a factory reset which seems a bit drastic.
Now all I need is an idea for an App that is regarded as essential for all Android devices. The actual coding of it will be easy. Won’t it?
