Grouse on Baildon Moor. 16 Aug 2025.

On 16 Aug I spent some time on Baildon Moor. A lot of the time I was not too far from the Trig Point.

Grouse

I had already been for a decent wander on the moor when I spotted a Grouse. I have seen Grouse on the Moor before but usually it is just a head before it ducks down and hides in the Heather or as they run off. This time I kept as still and quiet as I could and thankfully the drone had stopped flying by then.

I was able to watch five Grouse wander about feeding on the Heather and pecking at stuff on the ground.

It looked like they had seen me and didn’t come much closer but they didn’t seem too bothered. Not like when dogs came along the hill. Even from 150 metres away the Grouse went into deeper grass and disappeared from sight. Once the dog had gone they came out again after a few minutes.

Watching them pulling at the Heather and eating it was good to see.

Others

From Baildon Moor there can be some decent long distance views, I have a stack of photos taken at various times of year that one of these days I will go through, they might make a reasonable panoramic view. This view of Leeds has quite a bit of haze.

The Crow with its head on the side is, I think, trying to drink a spilt drink on the bench near the trig point.

The last two photos were taken on Bracken Hall Green.
