This is a bit of a catch-up, and there are a few more yet to come. These are from 24 July in the Wild Flower Meadow next to Denso Marston Nature Reserve, behind Sapper Jordan Rossi Park. I am pleased when I get out and photograph wildlife but it is a bit of a waste if I then just keep the photos on my computer, so here you go.

Bees, Bugs, Butterflies & Bird

During the Summer I went down to the Wildflower Meadow a few times looking for butterflies and was lucky on several occasions to see Common Blue and Small Copper with the odd Small Skipper and Gatekeeper.
Common Blue and Small Copper are beautiful butterflies.
In the wider area Peacock, Speckled Wood, Meadow Brown, Comma and various Whites were often to be seen.
At one point I watched several Green Veined White flitting around each other and managed to get 4 in the shot. Unfortunately the settings on my camera had got altered somehow. The ISO had been wound right up to 32000 as a reult the image was very noisy and of poor quality. To compensate for the high ISO the shutter got set to 1/8000s and the aperture to f:22 which meant the exposure was not too bad.
One of the things I like about a few of the photos is that they show lots of other bugs on the same flowers. The Red Soldier Beetles were easy to spot but for some of the others it is only when I get home and start looking through the photos do I realise how busy some of the plants are.
Long Hoverfly, Marmalade Hoverfly and the more common Hoverfly, Syrphus ribesii, were flitting around.
I also went up to the swing bridge over the canal where the afternoon Sun shone along the canal under the tree canopy to shine on a pair of Swans. I would have liked to have had a wider view of them to show the darker tree canopy with the Swans catching the light, but it’s not bad.
