Speedwell in the grass

It seemed a shame to cut the grass the other day. The grass (?? moss bed) at the front of the house had some of these tiny Speedwell flowers in it. I just had to get my extension tubes out to get a nice close-up of it before cutting the grass.

I don’t do a lot of macro work but of the lenses I have used the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens seems to be the most versatile. The zoom control lets me focus over quite a range and then the focus ring lets me tweak the last little bit. Once the focus is very close the auto-focus works too, but in this case I had it turned off. It doesn’t do any damage but I don’t think it is a good idea to rotate the focus ring on this lens when auto focus is turned on. The range of how close I can get is controlled by the combination of the extension tube set I use between the lens and the camera, 13mm, 21mm or 31mm.
