A souvenir from a trip round the unused parts of Salts Mill

When going round some of the unused parts of the mill it is difficult to know the dates of some of the things seen. It is easy to think of lots of the things dating back a long way, the mill was opened in 1853, but because the mill was in use for many years it is likely that many of the old things have just been thrown out.

This is a scan of one of the things I found.

What date might this have against it? It is easy to think that it dates back to the days when smoking was thought to be good for you but I was surprised to find that you can still buy Capstan Full Strength.

I did a bit of searching and found a website that gives the health warnings for cigarettes for many countries (zigsam.at) The warning on the side of this packet dates back to between 1975 and 1977. The mill was still in use at that time – it closed in 1986 and renovation by Jonathan Silver started in the following year.
