Bird Sightings today in Robert’s Park 14/11/12

Perhaps I am stretching it slightly with the title because this bird, a Manadarin Duck, was on the edge of the Leeds Liverpool Canal this morning which is the wrong side of the river for Robert’s Park. They are very ornate and this photo does not do it justice. The stripes on the sides, like moire fringes, almost pull at your eyes. A few months ago one of these was on the river keeping company with an equally ornate American Wood Duck.

As usual you can click on the image to see it on flickr.

And then at lunch-time I spotted this Little Grebe near the footbridge. I had to stalk it a little to get a photo. I took this one from the muddy edge of the river in Robert’s Park. The Little Grebe is just a few yards up from the Boathouse.
