Hopefully I will catch up before the end of the year. These are from August 2023, a few minutes by the site of Shipley Cinema on Briggate, Shipley and a look around Potter Pits. I have yet to put something together of the Harley Rally at August Bank Holiday Weekend.
The small piece of ground at Fox Corner where the cinema used to be has been reclaimed rather nicely by Nature. A big advertising screen has been installed on the end of the first building there and it looks as though they might be keen on keeping the plant growth to a height such that it doesn’t hide the screen from view.

I try to identify the things I take photos of – Teasel, Ragwort, Wild Carrot, Yarrow, Buddleia, Rosebay Willowherb and no doubt plenty of others.

It is now almost 11 years since the space was a pile of rubble. This was taken on 19 Jan 2012.

I then went across the road. The Rowan trees shading the graves on the slope were full of berries. I then headed into Potter’s Pits, I have yet to see any reference to this name, I hope I have it right. Passing where Bradford Beck was visible unfortunately showed that it was polluted. I reported it to the Environment Agency but I expect that they only have the resources to log the call and not enough people to see that it is followed up and get faulty drain connections fixed.

Potter’s Pits was quieter than I expected. Plenty of Bees but few butterflies and birds. I could hear a few Grasshoppers.

I then went to have a quick look at the Butterfly Meadow at Shipley Station. The wording of the sign next to the bridge caught my eye. Given that a double decker bus is over 14 feet high the wording of the sign on the bridge seems unusual to me. Wouldn’t it be better to say “will not fit”? I suppose the height sign says it will not fit and the red and white sign is implying – “OK. You know it won’t fit but if you feel like trying then the overhead wires might get you.”
I spotted a few Large White butterflies in the meadow and the casing from a Burnet Moth Chrysalis but not much else. I also checked the land between platform 5 and the carpark. This is where I have seen some Common Blue butterflies in the past.
