Circular RSPB Walk 26 April 2026

This was a circular walk on 26 April 2026 organised by RSPB Airedale and Bradford Group and guided by Steve, the warden of Denso Marston Nature Reserve.

The header image is of a Juvenile Grey Heron we spotted on the river.

As usual you can tap/touch/click on an image to see it in better quality in the carousel gallery with an i for more information. And if you like what you see please click on one or more of the Share buttons at the bottom.

Sightings

We started off from Saltaire Brewery on Dockfield Road at about 2:00pm. Across the road a group of Rock Doves and House Sparrows were having a splash about in the canal.

Towards the end of the houses on aptly named Cygnet Way was Swan 7Y50, further along the canal was a Jay.

Along the canal we spotted quite a few Orange-tip Butterflies and I managed to get this photo of a Small Tortoiseshell.

We walked along to the Buck Lane footbridge and crossed the River Aire and started heading back towards Shipley.

Just before Denso Marston Nature Reserve I spotted this Nettle-tap on a Dandelion and a couple of minutes later the smart looking Comma Butterfly.

One of the treats at the pond in Denso Marston Nature Reserve was a Kingfisher, then furhter along the river a juvenile Grey Heron – no breeding plumage and no blue shoulders.

Before crossing the river again at Lower Holme I spotted a Wren.

We were now back at Saltaire Brewery where it was only sensible to have a drink and chat some more.
