After seeing the birds near Howdendyke Island I walked round the river bank going up river. I am not sure how this fire extinguisher got way out in the mud. Presumably it has been dropped off a boat that went past at high tide. As usual you can click on the image to see it larger at flickr.
Further along the M62 Ouse Bridge goes over the river. It is quite a sight with the concrete gently rising out of the flat landscape. This is underneath it.
A little further round, the river is crossed by the much smaller Boothferry Bridge which was built between 1926 and 1929 to replace the ferry. It was the lowest bridging point until the building of the M62 and later the Humber Bridge. I thought the sunset and clouds reflecting in the river there was nice. Hence these photos.
In this one (below) which, I admit, is similar to the one above, you can see parts of Drax Power Station. There is also a hint of orange sunset on the flanks of some of the sheep.
In this one you can see Ferrybridge Power Station in the distance with very little steam coming from the cooling towers. From this part of the world it is easy to see Drax, Ferrybridge and Eggborough power stations. You can also see them from the trig point on the top of Baildon Moor!
