Our Garden, 23 & 24 May 2026

The warm weather certainly brings out the insects. These were all taken in, or from, our garden.

The header image is a silhouette of a Swift above our house.

As usual you can tap/touch/click on an image to see it in better quality in the carousel gallery with an i for more information. And if you like what you see please click on one or more of the Share buttons at the bottom.

Little Things

These are a few of the little things in our garden. Google did its best to convince me that the more purple of the Mint Moths is actually a Common Purple & Gold Moth Pyrausta purpuralis but I’m having none of it.

We often see Holly Blue butterflies fly through our garden. This one I kept my eye on and it settled on some Holly and I was able to get its photo with my long lens.

All the other photos in this section were taken with my macro lens with ring flash fitted.

Bigger Things

I watched a Wood Pigeon in our Elder tree and thought it was eating the very unripe Elderberries. On looking through my lens I could see that it was actually eating the leaves.

Having planes fly over and also having the Moon in the sky allowed me to have distant objects to focus on so that I had a better chance of seeing and focusing on the Swifts that I kept seeing high in the sky. As you can see, the sky was blue. No clouds and any vapour trails that formed soon faded.
