Rodley Nature Reserve Feb 2023

A couple of days ago I changed the theme used by the website. I hope people prefer it.

On Sunday I took my camera and binoculars along to Rodley Nature Reserve.

As usual tap on an image to view it in the gallery.

Gadwall ducks are frequently seen at Rodley as are Teal. I think it is a Teal in the first image – the head looks right but the part of the beak that can be seen and the back of the bird don’t look right. Please let me know what you think it is.

Edit: I have now heard from some helpful people. The bird, or a similar one, in the first image has been around for a while. It is what is know as a Brewer’s Duck and is a mix of Mallard and Gadwall.

When I went back to the car I was surprised to see the number of Canada Geese in the farmer’s field. There were also a few Crows and one of them was partly leucistic. On the far side of the field were a few little dots that moved slightly. Binoculars and long lens showed them to be a mixture of 18 Fieldfare and Redwing.
