Thanks to a tip-off I went out with my camera and binoculars along the river Aire looking for a Tawny Owl. The header image is the first view I had of it.

Tawny Owl
As expected the Owl spent most of the time with its eyes closed. It opened one eye slightly for a second or two, quite possibly spotting me before I saw it, but took no interest in what was around and closed it again.
I didn’t spend long there because I didn’t think the Owl would do anything more than occasionally open an eye, I didn’t want to disturb it, it (the weather) was cold, and the Sun was already quite low in the sky, after all we are only just past the Winter Solstice.
