My ramblings, my photos, photography, image editing, etc.

Coffee in the garden

Today when I put the recycle bins out I could have used an umbrella. Fortunately I god the job done before the rain really came down. Yesterday I could also have used an umbrella, but yesterday it would have been to protect myself from the sun. Mid morning I sat out with a coffee and put my camera on its tripod next to me.

As usual tap on an image to see it better quality.

Earlier in the year I saw a few butterflies and had been hoping that as the year progressed and warmed up there would be lots more. That has yet to happen. We have had a few days of warmth but we have also had heavy rain. On Monday though I did spot a couple of Red Admirals and a Small White.

A few days ago I cleaned one of the bird feeders and put it out with Sunflower seeds. It has been very busy with Goldfinches especially juveniles. Greenfinches have also visited but in small numbers. Quite a few Blue Tits juveniles have been in, and a couple of very scruffy looking adults. I guess they are on a second brood and have been too busy looking after their young. I hope that the adults were feeding themselves and then going off to find caterpillars for their young. I don’t think the young Blue Tits in the nest are supposed to be fed on seeds. Bullfinch are OK with that though, the adults mash the seeds to feed to their young.

Next door have a Lilac tree. After watching a couple of Buzzards flying overhead I noticed that the leaves on the Lilac were looking a bit scrawny. And then I spotted a Wood Pigeon pulling at the leaves and eating them, not something I have seen before. Dunnock and Collared Doves have also been picking up scraps from under the feeder.
