I missed the “Birds on the Reserve” walk on Saturday but on Sunday, after sitting around with a coffee in the morning wondering when I should start painting the doors upstairs I decided to go for a walk along the river.
It got off to a good start. As I left the front door I looked up and there was a Red Kite hovering over the house.
The Red Kite circled for a few times and then, as usual, it soon disappeared into the distance with hardly a flap of its wings.
Down on the Denso Marston Nature Reserve the bird feeders have been filled so I thought I would take a few shots of the birds using it.
Chaffinch
Robin
Great Tit
I then went for a wander along the river to just beyond the railway bridge. I saw a few other birds such as Moorhen, Wren, Long Tailed Tits (dozens), Crow, Jay, Magpie, Mallard, Goosander, Blackbird. On the way back I stopped off near the pond and watched a Blue Tit feeding in the reeds. I am rather pleased with the reflection.
On the way back again I then saw a Grey Heron looking rather ungainly in a tree
And then nearby a Roe Deer kept showing itself
Just before finally setting off to the car a Fox trotted along the river bank.
It was only 3:30 but already it looked as though the Sun was setting. It seemed to turn the trees of Buck Wood even more Autumn coloured.
I decided to take a slightly longer route home and stopped to take this shot from Bracken Hall Green (aka Shipley Glen) looking West.
All in all a very pleasant afternoon, better than painting doors anyway.
