Here’s a few photos from a couple of walks along Baildon Bank, and one at Northcliffe Woods.
The header image is of a Male Pheasant wondering who that person is that is getting in his way.

Baildon Bank

The first of these visits to Baildon Bank was to look for Green Woodpeckers. I heard them, and almost stood on one before it startled me by flying away, but didn’t get any photos.
I did spot Mining Bees though, both Tawny and Ashy mining bees.
I had just the one lens with me on the first visit – my long 200-800mm lens. Not really suitable for Bees even though the Tawny Mining Bee photo was taken with it. So I went back the following day with my macro lens to get some better photos.
On both visits I also spotted a bug called Horvathiolus superbus. Apparently this bug is widespread in the Channel Islands but was not found on the British mainland until 2019, when a colony was discovered at a site in west Yorkshire. That population was presumably the result of horticultural introduction and was associated with Common Foxglove, Digitalis purpurea.
I also spotted several Nomad Bees that were checking out some of the Mining Bee nest holes – they don’t make nests of their own.

Northcliffe Woods
This was a 30 minute walk in Northcliffe Woods. I was hoping for Great Spotted Woodpeckers – heard but not seen, and Ring-necked Parakeets – lots seen and a few photographed.
I also managed to track a Jay flying around with something in its beak, it turns out it was a headless rodent.
