My ramblings, my photos, photography, image editing, etc.

Rounding off February 2025. 1 of 4.

There’s quite a few photos in this post, ones from a couple of visits to Denso Marston Nature Reserve, a couple of visits to Tong Park Dam and Gill Beck, a visit to Rodley Nature Reserve and some from Baildon Moor and Baildon Town.

Some of the photos are of:- Kingfisher, Dipper, Red Kite, Kestrel, Buzzard, Fieldfare, Lapwing, Curlew, Pink Footed Goose, Grey Wagtail, Pied Wagtail.

EDIT: I have decided to split this into several posts. This one is for the trips to Denso Marston Nature Reserve. I was temped to do a Douglas Adams style 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3 and 4 of 3, but at the last minute changed it to 4.

As usual you can tap/touch/click on an image, not its caption, to see it in better quality in the gallery. If you are using a phone this can be quite tricky to do because the caption takes up most of the space of the thumbnail, you might find it easier to turn your phone to landscape. I am hoping to change that for the site. You can also leave comments or subscribe to the site – leave your email address and you will get notified when I publish something new.

Denso Marston NR

A walk along the river Aire at Denso Marston Nature Reserve is always relaxing and I often meet people I know down there and have a natter.

Spring is in the air – Snowdrops, Daffodils and mating Moorhens. The male Mandarin ducks are also displaying their finery. The Little Grebe is also developing its breeding plumage.

I have yet to see an Otter on the river, I keep looking and also look for signs on the river banks. Paw prints in the sand. I have seen prints several times but I assume Mink prints are similar.

If nothing else, on these walks, it is good to just look at things, to try to notice what is around. A simple thing like the regular markings on the trunk of a White Poplar tree.

  1. […] Another surprise is how much a male Mandarin Duck can change. Compare this one with how they looked earlier in the year here […]
