Thursday

On Thursday I went into Shipley intending to visit two places.
- The canal next to the Otley Road bridge at Fox Corner for Sand Martins
- Potter’s Pits for butterflies and moths
Sand Martins above the Leeds Liverpool Canal at Fox Corner – tick. This photo is on one coming out of a nest in the wall carrying a fecal sac.
On the way to Potter’s Pits I walked under a road sign and spotted a spider hanging from it, wrapping a meal.
Butterfly, a Ringlet, at Potter’s Pits – tick. Plus a Chiffchaff.
It is now 11 years since I saw a Marbled White in Potter’s Pits. The “Stop Morrison’s killing rare Marbled White” signs are still there. Marble White and the signs feature in a visit in 2018 – Shipley Butterfly morning of 3 July 2018.
It was hot out in the open so I didn’t stay long.
Fox Cubs
On Saturday morning I decided to go out a little earlier than usual, a lot earlier actually – before 6:00am, to avoid the heat. Down into Shipley again, this time with a little seat and my tripod so I could stay quiet and still but be ready to take photos. It worked and I was back home before 9:00am.
