My ramblings, my photos, photography, image editing, etc.

Mid September, DMNR, Wetherby Racecourse, Goosemoor Nature Reserve

Over the last couple of weeks I have been down to Denso Marston Nature Reserve and along to Wetherby Racecourse for the Society of Photographers Roadshow. After leaving the racecourse I asked Google Maps to show me nearby nature reserves, I then spent a couple of hours at Goosemoor Nature Reserve at Cowthorpe.

Denso Marston Nature Reserve

At Denso Marston Nature Reserve there were 3 Cormorants on the river, one of them a juvenile. At one time a Cormorant was diving right next to the Grey Heron but a tree was in the way preventing me from getting a photo of them both.

The helicopter is owned by TJ Morris Ltd., who trade as Home Bargains. On the 18th, when this was taken it flew to Keighley. Apparently this is a rather nice Airbus Helicopters H160 B. At first I thought that the rotor arms looked bent due to the rolling shutter effect of my camera – it was taken using electronic shutter, but looking at photos of it on the ground show that the rotor arms have a kink at the end.

Photographer Roadshow

Thursday, 19th Sept was The Society of Photographers’ Roadshow at Wetherby Racecourse. I have been interested in Sigma’s new 18-50mm lens with the Canon RF-S mount. Sigma were going to have a stand at the roadshow so I went along with my camera to see if they had one I could try. I compared it to my EF-S 17-55 and I am now the owner of the Sigma lens. It didn’t sway the deal, but I was told that if I registered the purchase I would get a 10% discount on my next Sigma lens – what he didn’t say was that I would have to order it within 30 days. 🙁

I also had a look at the new Canon RF 200-800mm lens. Impressive. I’ll stick with my 150-600mm for a while yet though.

Goosemoor Nature Reserve

When it was time to leave the roadshow I asked Google if there were any local nature reserves and then headed off to Goosemoor Nature Reserve at Cowthorpe.

As soon as I got out of the car a moth landed on my trousers, it even let me walk to the boot of the car and get my camera.

What I liked most about the reserve though was the walk around part of its perimeter. The fences seemed to be a place that the dragonflies liked to rest on. Near the beehives and apple orchard a Southern Hawker let me get up quite close

As usual, in fact 2 usual things, tap on an image to see it better quality in a gallery and let me know if I have got the ID of anything wrong.
